We wanted to create the other side of the scale with respect to the Barcelona Comic Fair, which was more commercial: Viñetas is an event focused on authors, a global showcase. Miguelanxo Prado analyzes his career leading the festival over the years: “I feel very proud. “But, after his mandate, the Cartoons were able to continue developing without betraying the model, following the guidelines with which he was born,” explains the author of Trazo de tiza o Ardalén (National Comic Award in 2013). “It was a privileged situation,” Prado acknowledges. His name has been associated with the festival since the socialist mayor Francisco Vázquez, a fan of comics, proposed the project to him in 1998. “It has been a long process of reflection, after which I came to the conclusion that the model I proposed was no longer sustainable,” reflects Prado a few weeks after making the decision. Thus, he put an end to a 25-year career at the helm of one of the most prestigious comic book festivals in the State, faithful to his appointment every August in the capital of A Coruña, and a reference in the sector. In 2013 he received the National Comic Award for his work 'Ardalén'.On March 29, the comic book artist Miguelanxo Prado (A Coruña, 1958) announced his resignation as director of Viñetas from O Atlántico. In 2009, he became a member of the Galician Royal Academy of Fine Arts. In 2003, he published the collective work 'Noches eternas', in partnership with the screenwriter Neil Gaiman. In that same year, Prado became the director of the Comic Fair 'Viñetas desde o Atlántico'. In 1998, he drew the characters for the animation series 'Men in Black' for the American production company Dreamworks.

He has worked for Televisión Galega, the channel for which he created the character Xabarín, and the characters in the series 'Os vixilantes do Camiño'. After working at the satirical magazine 'El Jueves', he published 'Streak of chalk', which earned him unanimous acclaim from his international readers. In 1985 he published his first solo work, 'Fragmentos da Enciclopedia Délfica', followed only two years later by 'Stratos'. From a very early age he started to collaborate in magazines like 'Creepy', 'Comix Internacional' and 'Zona84'. Miguelanxo Prado was born in 1956 in A Coruña.
