I like world building and getting snippets of the characters' past, so while I was entranced with hearing details about Venda and the Ballengers, she was probably just thinking about how she wanted to get on with the story. I love Dance of Thieves! I didn't find it slow at all, although a friend of mine read it and found it completely boring.
